US Citizenship Test: Civics

What this policy covers

This privacy policy explains how the mobile application US Citizenship Test: Civics (the “app”) handles information when you use it. The app is published on Google Play under the package name us.citizenship.test.civics.

The short version

What we do NOT collect

What stays on your device

The app stores your test version (2025 or 2008), your state, the U.S. representative you pick, your 65/20 setting, your audio and theme preferences, which questions you have mastered or missed, and your mock interview results in private storage inside the app. This information is never uploaded by us and is deleted when you uninstall the app or tap Reset progress in Settings.

Permissions the app requests

Internet access

The app uses the internet only to serve advertisements (Google AdMob) and to send anonymous usage events to our analytics service. The questions, answers and your progress work without a connection. The app does not request location, storage, microphone, camera or contacts permissions.

Advertising: Google AdMob

We keep the app free by showing ads through Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob may collect and process on Google’s servers:

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the app shows a Google certified consent message (Google’s User Messaging Platform) so you can choose whether ads are personalized, and you can reopen those choices from the app’s Settings screen. You can reset or delete your advertising identifier at any time in your device settings. Google’s use of advertising data is governed by Google’s privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy, and AdMob’s practices are described at support.google.com/admob/answer/6128543.

Usage analytics

The app sends a small set of anonymous usage events to a first party analytics service that we host on Cloudflare. Each event includes a random identifier created inside the app (not linked to your name, email or advertising identifier), the event name (for example “quiz completed”), simple numbers such as how many quiz questions you answered correctly, the app version and the test version you study. Our hosting provider adds the country the request came from. We use this only to understand which features help people study and to fix problems. It is never sold and never used for advertising.

Data sharing

We do not sell your data. The only parties that receive data are Google AdMob (to provide and measure advertising) and our own analytics service on Cloudflare (anonymous usage events only), each subject to its own terms and privacy policy.

Children

The app is a general audience study tool for adults preparing for the U.S. naturalization civics test. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, contact us and we will delete it.

Data retention

Your settings and progress stay on your device only, and uninstalling the app deletes them. Anonymous analytics events stay on our analytics service only for as long as we need them to improve the app. Data held by Google AdMob is retained under Google’s policies.

Your rights

We do not hold personal data about you on our servers, so there is nothing on our side to access, correct, export or delete. Messages you send through the contact form can be deleted on request. For data Google may hold about your advertising identifier, you can manage your choices in your device settings or at adssettings.google.com.

Independent study app, not the official test

US Citizenship Test: Civics is an independent study app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, or any government agency, and it is not the official naturalization test. The questions and answers come from the public USCIS civics test materials at uscis.gov/citizenship. Some answers change after elections and appointments, so always check uscis.gov/citizenship/testupdates before your interview. The app is not legal advice.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. The current version is shown by the “Last updated” date below, and changes are published at this address before they take effect in the app.
